They say that in newsletters
you’re supposed to include some news, so here it is: I’m going to Africa! I’ve been appointed as a worker with AltLink, and my departure is set for next June (2013).
How did I get to this point?
Well, I’ve been in contact with AltLink since March, filling out paperwork,
interviewing, writing a statement of faith, doing psych evaluations, and so on
and so forth. I guess they want to ensure their workers are in a sound state
of mind? Anyway, the culmination of all that was Candidate Week, Aug 13-18, in Georgia. After much prayer, consultation, information, and more,
they decided to appoint me and we are prayerfully considering a team going to a
coastal area of Africa.
It's a 2 year commitment in a creative access region [read: unfriendly to those who enter as m_ss__naries]. The plan at this point is for me to use teaching English as a platform for building relationships and sharing the Good News.
So, with all of that behind
me, the next step is to look forward. In the next 9 months I have to raise all
my outgoing funds and monthly support, get a certificate in teaching English as
a Second Language, and prepare for going to Africa.
Would you be willing to pray
for me? I’m in need of energy, perseverance to do this on my own, and
creativity in raising support, both the money and the prayer. If you'd like to make a pledge (prayer or money), let me know and I'll send you more information.
Love you all, and looking forward to walking this path with you by my side.
